Digital Blender?
Okay, so the other day I went to Walmart to buy some gloves for a Halloween costume. As I am sure you know if you ever go to Walmart for something random you'll probably end up walking through the whole store to find it (also because it is fun to press things with buttons and then walk away). On my Walmart wanderings I stumbled across something that greatly concerned me and I want to warn you all about it. I saw a Digital Blender! I know what you are thinking: "Why would they make a kitchen appliance to blend your digits? and who would want to put their hand in the blender to allow it to?" I don't know the answers to these sick questions. Protect yourselves from potential digit loss and avoid Digital Blenders at all costs!

Propsition 8 - It is about equality
I truly believe in equal rights. Everyone should have equal right to pursue the life that they want, within reason obviously. We should never allow anyone to do anything that would blatantly infringe on the rights of another. For example, we don't allow people the right to have the life of a homicidal maniac (I know it is an extreme example) because it would infringe on other's rights to life. So we can see that the rights of the individual are not always that they can do whatever they want. Nor is it allowed that if one person has the right to do something all may have that right too. Take for instance, public restrooms, I can not enter a woman's restroom without infringing on a woman's right to privacy. Yet half of the world can, is that a violation of my rights? No, because allowing me to do that would take away another's rights. The question to be considered is, If we allow someone the right to do something will it give more rights to the people or take away more rights? We want to have as a society as many rights as possible provided to as many people as possible. That is how we will achieve equality. It will not be that every individual has the same rights as the next (i.e. blind people can not have a driver's license (not that I have anything against the blind, it is just an example)), but will be that we allow society the opportunity to pursue rights that are equal to everyone in the same condition (everyone who doesn't have a physical disability that would prevent them from driving has the same right to a driver's license, assuming they don't loose that right some other way). So proposition 8 is to protect people's rights. How? By defining marriage as only between a man and woman we will be protecting the right of everyone who do not wish to condone any other type of relationship. If Prop 8 fails than it will be forced upon school that they treat homosexual relationships as equal to tradition marriage, even if parents are opposed to it. Shouldn't parents have the right to say what their children are taught? Churches that do not wish to condone the practice of homosexual relationships could be labeled as bigots and loose their tax exempt status and might be force to shut down their community programs (like adoption agencies). Shouldn't churches have the right to believe and practice what they want? I am tolerant of people that choose to live a homosexual life style but I choose not to condone life. I can not support it nor choose to recognize it as equal. Would Prop 8 take away rights from homosexuals? Not really, in California, homosexual relationships are already given the same legal right as marriages through domestic partnerships. All Prop 8 does is protect the rights of people who want to choose how they believe and what they teach their children among other things. It protects a definition.
"A contract made in due form of law, by which a free man and a free woman reciprocally engage to live with each other during their joint lives, in the union which ought to exist between husband and wife." (1)
"the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc." (2)
I will say it straight out, homosexual relationships are not equal to heterosexual ones (especially not marriage). They are physically different in that they do not have the ability to procreate and advance society. It has also be shown that children that are raised by a father and mother (a man and a woman) are significantly better off that not. There are always exceptions to the rules, but if we lived on exceptions alone than we would have no basis to order. So why should we say that they are equal when they are not?

If you are ever asked to solve all the world's problems...
... Don't do it, the world will never listen and you probably have enough of your own to think about. So I took a test to day and I'm about to take another. Quantum Mechanics is fun! However it is terrible to be tested on. Wow, I have never forgot so much on a test but I don't think it is too bad. I doubt everyone else remembered everything too. So yea, for relative grading. Anyway, I want to stop thinking but I do not think that I am allowed too. Anyway, I get trained at the hospital on Thursday and i am more than excited to be finally volunteering. I'm almost there.
Yes on 8
Hey Guys watch this video to get a better understand on what Proposition 8 is all about. It is not out taking away people's rights but protecting ours.

I'm Bored
They said I could leave and I didn't need to stay for the rest of class. The problem is that I haven't quite gotten up yet. I need to go to my next class but not for another twenty minutes and I don't know where to go in the mean time. So I just stay here. Anyway, I an bored so I thought I'd tell you all about it...I'm bored...I guess that is all I have to say on that subject.
So, I got my ID badge from the Utah Valley Hospital yesterday. I should be volunteering in the ER in the next couple of weeks. It is going to be great. I hope that since I am an EMT-B that they will let me do more that just stock the supply closest. However, since I am working the 9PM to 1 AM shift I doubt I'll be doing too much inventory.
I have spent the last couple of days reading the book Brisingr. It was really good, the only bad part is that I kinda neglected a bunch of homework. But that is okay, I think it did me a whole lot of good to break the monotony of my life for a few days. I ready to start thinking and everything again. All should be well.

Maybe I should blog more?
Hey everyone! EFY was stupendous! I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I only wish I had more time to blog, the unfortunate thing was that when I had time I didn't have internet. Oh well, After Vegas I went to Fresno and Nauvoo. I simply had a blast. Since EFY I have been around, just getting things done and going to school. I am taking a major course load since I need more units to maintain a scholarship I was awarded by the chemistry department over the summer. But I have Intermediate Portuguese, Technical Writing for Chemists, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry (going over quantum mechanics and atomic structure) and its Lab, and Doctrine and Covenants. All good stuff, I currently am working as CHEM 106 recitation leader and still as an Athletic tutor. For now all is well and I need to get to school.

What happens in Vegas...
... well, I'm not sure how the rest of that goes. Anyway, my EFY travels have taken me as far as Las Vegas now. I'm sorry I haven't been able to keep everyone up to date with my experiences. I don't have too much time to do spend updating my blog. I will post some pictures as soon as I can get the internet here to work on my computer. But just so everyone knows, I am having a blast. It is so much fun to be with the youth of the church. Also, for the most part it has been medically boring the last three weeks. That is a good things since it means most people are health and happy. Only two trips to the hospital/urgent care center since the summer started for my partner and I. Anyway, I wish everyone well and hope to see most everyone in four weeks.

Powerless Power!!!
Well, let's just say that last night was interesting. Right next to UCSB is a mountain that is on fire!!! I know, exciting to say the least. So it isn't bad at all, just ash falling from the sky and thick cloud of smoke. Anyway, that bad thing is that it caused some rolling brown outs or a straight out black out in the whole city. So we are without power and we have all of these kids that want pizza (that isn't coming anymore). So it is basically the basis of a stressful situation. Though it didn't cause much strife among the leadership I work with. I see them every day and they handle things well, all the time but I was just so impressed with the control they showed during this high
elevated stressful time. Like I said Power when we had none. I'm glad to be working with my FC's and BC's, also my co-HC has truly been like my other half (I'd be lost without her). So things are well at EFY since we now have power and I am still with powerful people.

Tuesday Awesomeness
Hey everyone, EFY is amazing! It is the second day of the first session here. I am currently off from work since I was on call last night. Which gives me the opportunity to communicate with you all. I haven't had any big health needs yet but like I said it is the second day. I have had the opportunity to attend a few lessons on goal setting and the Session Director is simply amazing. Oh and my partner is also amazing, I would totally be lost without her, I am so glad she is here. We are having so much fun together. Nothing too specific to mention quite yet but at least all is going well.

Unpublished Blog
I don't always have internet access so as I post blogs sometime they will be written on a different day than posted.

Beware the green-eyed monster, or the Raccoon out by the back door. I was finishing my first day on my EFY job as a Health Counselor and as I walked back to my room I saw this Raccoon on the lawn. I ran to get my camera to take a picture and this is what I got. I should have changed some settings but I was too worried about it running away. My first day was good. I sat in on the counselor training; it was good just not oriented to my job so I didn’t really take in everything. Everything is well in Santa Barbara, the weather included.

California Fun is Done...
... for now! Yep, I am home for a week. I spent the last week in Northern California and next week I leave for Southern California for EFY. It will be great. I really enjoyed my time back in Modesto. It was great to see family and visit some friends. The Monday before last, Kevin and I arrived in Ripon and we participated in a big family barbecue. Uncle Glen's pool is amazing after a 12 hour drive. Tuesday I visited the Lewis and Smeltzer fams and did a bunch of going about the town. Other added benefits of Modesto were lab coats for a dollar a piece and eight dollars for a box of medical tape, yes! Thursday, we made our way up to the Russian River for a Family Reunion. It was great, filled with freezing cold oceans and wonderful rivers to play in. It was fun to be with the family. Inspired by grandpa's words of wisdom this year I am going to improve my food storage. Sunday we came home, 12 more hours in Kevin's car. Oh by the way I can drive stick now, I need like a bit more practice but I don't think I'm that bad. Anyway the trip was great. Now I need to prepare for the next one.

My sister is making me do this...
...well, actually she is not but that is what she suggested for a title. I was reading a friend's blog today and I was greatly impressed. It was all about her and all inspiring and everything. I though to myself, "I wish I could have a cool blog like this." So now I'm trying to make a cool blog. One that everyone can read and be like "wow, that wasn't a waste of time after all." A few things that might improve my blog might be things like more things in quotations or even pictures. So now I'm just going to go and do it. Hooray for blogs!

Hey Everybody
I have enjoyed this Memorial Day Weekend. I'm pretty sure that I haven't done too much. I was thinking to myself today that I need to write more in my blog. Even if I don't have anything witty or cool to say... But I shouldn't be dry either because I want people to read my blog. It is good when people read my blog. Hopefully I'll have something to report later.

Diphenhydramine citrate 38mg
Last night I was feeling like garbage. I had had a terrible headache since that afternoon and was just miserable. So when I got home from my sister's home I went straight to bed at ten o'clock. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to sleep with the headache so I wanted to take some Advil or Tylenol. Well, just as luck would have it I had Tylenol but my roommate had AdvilPM. AdvilPM has Diphenhydramine citrate 38mg, a nighttime sleep aid. It is amazing, I slept through my alarm and woke up at about 10:30 AM. That is over 12 hours of sleep. I should do that more often (but I won't, we ran out and I am too cheap to buy more). I feel better now and that's good enough for me.

Lying on the Floor
I recommend it for everyone. Sometimes it is just good to lie on the floor and look up at the ceiling. It is similar to lying on the ground and looking at the sky. Anyway, I find that it allows me to just relax and think about what ever I need to. Everyone should get a floor and just lay on it.

I Passed! Again!
Hey, I mentioned in my last blog that I would take my written test on May 1st. Well I did and guess what, that's right, UVSC's testing center is incredibly hard to find. Regardless of that I passed my written test. That was my last test so I just need to wait for my certification to come in the mail and I will be a full-fledged EMT-B certified to work in the state of Utah. Hooray, Anyway, I didn't write this earlier because I have been doing a lot of school and on top of all of that I spend every free moment remodeling a bathroom at my parent's rental apartments. Wow, it is a lot of work and I am ready to be finished, I am no where near done but I am ready to be done. So, That is what is going on with me. Have a good one.

I passed!
Well, hey I just got the email yesterday and I passed my Utah state practical exam for EMT-B certification. I have a written test scheduled for May 1 so I should be full fledged EMTing soon after that. Thanks to everyone that helped me practice for my exam:)

Freedom is near
I just thought that I would mention that this is the last week of my EMT course. I will once again have my Tuesday and Thursday nights after this week. Also, physical therapist permitting, I should start playing soccer again with my ward. Anyway, I should take my practical examination on the 12th a week or so later I will take the written exam. Hopefully, I'll pass and then I will be EMT Hammari. Though people can still call me Dr. H if they so desire. Wish me luck as I get closer crunch time.

Hey I forgot to mention
Well, I'm pretty sure that you already know since it seems that my mother has informed the world, but I did get that job as and EMT for EFY. My actual title is and EFY Health Counselor. I always enjoy using the actual titles they always sound so much cooler. For example, when I worked at Bank of America as a vault teller I was actually a Cash Services Representative. See, so much cooler. Anyway, I will be spending seven weeks in the summer just traveling around to EFY locations in Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, Fresno and Nauvoo. It will be great. Hopefully, I can keep people informed about what going on with me through my blog. And when I say people I mean both of you. But I write as if there were more because I hope there will be.

Wow, someone actually reads my blog
I was surprised to see a comment on my blog this time i logged in. I didn't know that anyone actually read what I was writing. It is good I suppose, but now I feel bad that I haven't been writing. I have been telling myself that I don't need to write because nobody actually reads my posts anyway. Well, thanks Sister of mine for inspiring me to be more diligent.

Good old Uncle Steve
Well good old Uncle Steve decided to foot the bill and my mac's optical drive repair. So far, so good. It works although it does sound a little different. But it is good to have my computer back. Now I can more efficiently waste time at home instead of having to go on campus to waste day light. Anyway, that's whats new.

Simply Amazing
Okay, you will not even believe what happened to me the other day. I saw He-4 superfluid creep. I know it is exciting. Anyway as you all know He - 4 is a boson which means multiple atoms can share the same energy states (unlike fermions, that can not share energy states because of their 1/2 integral spin). So anyway, when He-4 reaches 4 Kelvin (about -452.5 degrees Fahrenheit) all of the atoms drop to the same energy state, leaving a gap in the energy states. Because of that gap it become a superfluid which is a perfect conductor of heat. Not a good conductor but a perfect conductor. So it will start to climb up the walls of the dewar flask as it gains this weird surface tension, that is called the super fluid creep. I looks like a jar full of water, if fact it was hard to even see that. The actual viewing is incredibly anticlimactic but it is cool to know that I have seen something that less that 500 Americans have ever seen.
A bit of the life of this Hammari
For all of those interested in knowing I am currently viewing my options for summer employment. I seem to be stuck. I have the possibility of having a really cool job as a EMT for EFY that pays really well, has great benefits, will give me patient care hours and will just be loads of fun. I also applied to be a research assistant through the American Heart Association. The research job will not be nearly as exciting and compensation with regards to filthy lucre is slightly less than EFY. However, I think it will open more doors to me. The EFY job seems to be a shoe in since I know the woman who does the hiring. I'm still waiting on the research job, I'll know in 6 weeks. I'm sure I'll eventually figure it out but that is what I am pondering nowadays.

Life is quick
So let's make the most out of it. How can we expect to do all we want to do in this life if we don't get up and do it. Such is life. We can procrastinate until we die or we can make the necessary changes. That's what I plan on doing, tomorrow.
